In 1964, Ford and Plymouth kick-started the pony car market with the Mustang and Barracuda. Chevrolet didn't join the segment until the 1967 model year, when it unleashed the Camaro. A few months later, Pontiac jumped on the pony bandwagon with the Firebird.
